We often get asked about the differences between our ultrasonic cavitation treatments and liposuction. While both procedures reduce fatty tissues, there are many differences between the two processes. Here’s a quick look at some of the most significant differences so you can decide which procedure is right for you.
Noninvasive v. Invasive Ultrasonic cavitation uses ultrasound waves to break down fatty tissues under the skin so the body can process them out through the liver. It is a noninvasive treatment that does not require surgery. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fatty tissue. The surgeon inserts an instrument under the skin that vacuums out fatty tissue. Outpatient v. General Anesthesia Since the treatment requires no surgery or anesthesia, an ultrasonic cavitation appointment requires no prep time. There is also little or no post-treatment recovery time. Liposuction, however, is surgery that requires general anesthesia. There is prep time ahead of the procedure and recovery time following the surgery. Painless v. Healing Time Required Ultrasonic cavitation is a painless process that takes less than an hour. Some patients feel a heat or tingling sensation during the treatment, but these go away quickly if they occur at all. Since it is an invasive procedure, liposuction can cause pain and inflammation during the recovery phase. As with other surgeries, there is risk of infection, too. No Scarring v. Scarring Since ultrasonic cavitation is noninvasive, treatments do not produce scarring. Mild side effects such as redness or blistering may occur, but these disappear after just a few hours. Because liposuction creates a wound where the instrument is inserted under the skin, it can cause scarring. If you are looking to reduce fatty tissue through ultrasonic cavitation or liposuction, it’s important that you carefully consider each option seriously and understand the benefits and the risks. If you have questions about ultrasonic cavitation and whether this painless, noninvasive treatment is a good option for you, we would love to talk with you. Call Lori at 951-641-5709 today.
